Cleaning – the key to long-lasting tools
The most important step after painting is to remove all traces of paint before it dries. The method depends on the type of paint you’ve used.
- Water-based paints (emulsion or acrylic): Rinse brushes and rollers thoroughly in warm water until the water runs clear. A small amount of mild washing-up liquid can help remove the last bits of paint.
- Oil-based paints: You’ll need white spirit or brush cleaner. Pour a little into a container and swirl the brush until the paint loosens. Rinse in clean solvent, then wash with warm water and soap.
